How long will they last? How do they wear compared to high quality pneumatic tires?

Our tires usually last at least twice as long as high quality pneumatic tires.  Our Customers are reporting that they get between 5,000 and 6,000 miles of use before discernable tread degradation.  Tests have shown that our tires will not mark Dry Wall

Will the tire stay on the rim in extreme conditions?

In extreme heat (hot road surface), we have not experienced any discernable performance difference, and none have rolled off. It is important to note that the tire bead width and bead depth must be properly matched to the rim specifications.  We have tested the tires under all conditions: heat, speed (over 40 MPH), wet and cold. We are not comfortable seeing airless tires used in extreme sports i.e. jumping over rocks, elevated structures or heavy skidding.  Airless tires in these environments can fail just like standard air filled tires.

What happens in rain? Will the tire be good for handling and braking

In tests during cold, rainy conditions, the tires exhibit good control and braking.

Will the tires stay on the rim when cornered hard?

We have tested our complete tire line at speeds of 25-45 MPH into a hard turn and experienced no loss of control and no deformation from the rim (lean-over angle of approximately 30 degrees).

What is the approximate weight of each tire in metric terms?

The weight of each tire is measured in grams as shown in the tire data chart.  Tire weight is usually comparable to conventional pneumatics and in some cases more than 20% lighter.

What is the equivalent tire pressure in PSI of each tire?

See the tire data chart for equivalent tire pressure. Rolling resistance is comparable to or better than that of standard pneumatic tires. One of the most significant factors effecting rolling resistance is air pressure.  Since airless tires have no air pressure to speak of, pay close attention to the equivalent psi values in the tire data section.  If the rider weights about two hundred fifteen pounds or more consider a customized tire.  Nu-Teck can customize the PSI  for a nominal cost per tire.  Please ask your sales person for details.

Do you have Distributors or Dealers?

We have many Distributors and Dealers across the United States and also some International. Every Distributor/Dealer has his own marketing strategy, product warranty and customer service plans which is NOT the same as NuTeck Corporation. They do purchase directly from NuTeck Corporation (the Manufacture).  Nu-Teck Corporation Custom Manufactures all tires which guarantees our customers a brand new tire with a full factory two year warranty.  This includes customizing PSI equivalents.

Order Status can be provided for NuTeck Factory Direct Orders ONLY!  If you ordered from a Distributor or Dealer please do NOT CALL NuTeck for specific customer order status. Distributors and Dealers place orders by a purchase order for a sizable quantity therefore, we cannot provide any customer specific order status.  Please contact your Distributor or Dealer directly for assistance.

Why have Distributors or Dealers?

The simple answer is that they sell our tires!  Although most Distributors and Dealers are reputable and provide good customer care, we are constantly reviewing our Distributors and Dealers marketing strategies and if we find that they don't reflect the best interest of Nu-Teck Corporation then we will cancel there agreements.  Also when ordering through a Distributor, be sure you are purchasing new tires not restocked, recycled tires or aged inventory.

Are their Dealers in my area?

That depends upon where you live.  We have a very large number of Dealers and Distributors across the U.S. and some International.  Since our tires are customized for our customers most will not carry inventory however, can assist customers in purchasing airless tires.  If you email us we will try to locate a Dealer near to you however, if there is no Dealer near you feel free to order directly from our factory.  Also, consider going into a bicycle shop and requesting them to "Order some airless tires."

How much do airless tires absorb shock compared to a regular air filled tire?

Our tires will absorb about 90% compared to regular tires filled with air.  We expect you would not be able to determine any difference.

What does E.T.R.T.O. mean?

This stands for "European Tire and Rim Technical Organization".  "ISO", the "International Organization for Standardization" has developed a universal tire sizing system that basically replaced E.T.R.T.O.

The ISO system uses two numbers: the first is the width of the tire or rim in millimeters.  The actual tire width will vary a bit depending on the width of the rim.  The rim width is measured between the flanges.

The second ISO number is the critical one, it is the diameter of the bead seat of the rim, in millimeters.  Generally, if this number matches, the tire will fit onto the rim; if it doesn't match, the tire will not fit.

For example, a 700 X 20c road tire would be a 20-622; a 700 X 38 Hybrid tire would be a 38-622.  The width difference between these sizes would make them less than ideal replacements for one another, but any rim that could fit one of them would work after a fashion with the other.

How long does it take to manufacture airless tires?

If you are ordering our standard non-customized tires, typical manufacturing times are two to four weeks plus shipping.  Ordering directly with NuTeck via this web site will get your order processed directly into manufacturing queue.  This will usually allow your order to ship ahead of typical manufacturing times noted.

Custom PSI Tires

Nu-Teck makes different sized tires on different days of the week. When we manufacturer custom PSI tires, we try to manufacture one size in bulk. The setup requires a special chemical mix and station adjustments to manufacture them. The tires then need to wait a day in a holding area to cure before being boxed up and sent to our customers. Sometimes you can order a custom PSI tire and have it in a week and other times it takes upwards of eight weeks. It just depends on when your size is to be made. We have made this service available since 1996 and no other company (Distributor or Dealer) can offer this. When you order custom tires, you are getting product that is made specific to you and will make your riding experience even more enjoyable.

What size of tire do I need?

Helpful information would be to know what size of rim you have specifically the rim bead width and bead depth.  Also note the size of the tire currently mounted on your rim.  If you do not know this information then consider the following:

  • Review the manual & specifications that came with your bike.
  • Look at the stamped markings on the side of your tire.
  • Go to the manufacturer's website where they usually have specs available on the rim bead width, bead depth and also tire size.
  • Measure the rims yourself following example located at the bottom of our "tire data" page. Then compare those measurements to our airless tire specifications.

Should I cover the hole where the valve stem is located?

This is not necessary.  None of our customers have reported any problems leaving the hole uncovered.  To protect against water or foreign material from entering the hole and being trapped between the tire and rim place a small piece of Mylar tape over the hole.

Is the rolling resistance increased with airless tires compared to regular air filled tires?

NO.  The rolling resistance of airless tires is comparable to air filled tires.  We offer customized PSI ranges for airless tires.  No other Distributor or Dealer can offer this service.  Rolling resistance can be decreased by manufacturing a custom PSI tire with a higher density.  If you weigh 190lbs or more you might be more comfortable with tires customized to a higher PSI.  The highest PSI we offer is 175lbs.
